After some time away, the popular MotorCities On The Road program series, created during the COVID pandemic as "MotorCities At Home," returns next Wednesday, June 26 with an in-person talk and tour of the new Pontiac Transportation Museum, located at 250 West Pike in Pontiac.

Doors open at 6 p.m., and the program will get underway at 6:30. Tickets are $10 and include admission to the Museum, a tour and light refreshments.

“The Pontiac Transportation Museum opened to the public for the first time on May 16, and MotorCities is pleased to offer this early look at the area's newest attraction celebrating the automobile,” said Shawn Pomaville-Size, Executive Director of the MotorCities National Heritage Area.

Located just blocks from the Woodward Avenue loop, the Museum pays homage to both the tremendous vehicle legacy of the Pontiac community as well as the social history of how the community interacted with its transportation industry. A striking 35 ft. wide mural graces the outside west wall of the building. It’s an iconic reminder of the city’s great transportation legacy and ready for visitors to take selfies with (or without) their vehicle.

Focusing on the 150-plus years of transportation history in and near the Pontiac area, the Museum’s product scope goes well beyond General Motors’ former Pontiac brand vehicles. It includes trucks (GMC was headquartered in Pontiac for 70 years), carriages, cars (several brands beyond Pontiac and Oakland), and motorcycles. To date 47 companies, 51 brands and 24 types of wheeled vehicles have been identified as having been engineered or built in the Pontiac area.
