Detroit United Railway

In 1900 various companies consolidated into the Detroit United Railway (DUR) Which grew to control streetcar systems  in Detroit and between the growing suburban cities. The city government decided that this railway should be owned by the city itself and battled the private owners in court for control. The DUR system was sold to the city in 1922.
