  • Event Description: This presentation explores the lives and careers of female engineering pioneers in the automotive industry: Virginia Sink, hired in by Chrysler in 1936 as the nation's first woman engineer; Ann Fletcher, a violin teacher turned trained for engineering during WWII and a longtime patent draftsman at Ford; Helma Fuhrmann, a WWII draftsman turned engineer at Detroit Diesel; and Lucille Pieti, Miss Wayne University 1950 and a mechanical engineer assigned to be spokeswoman for Plymouth. Troy Eller English is the archivist for the Society of Women Engineers at the Walter P. Reuther Library, Archives of Labor and Urban Affairs at Wayne State University.
