Nominations for MotorCities Annual Awards of Excellence Now Open;

Nominations are now open for the MotorCities National Heritage Area’s annual 2019 Awards of Excellence.
On Wednesday, October 30, MotorCities will honor nine finalists who have distinguished themselves in the areas of auto and labor heritage with its 6th annual Awards of Excellence.
A winner in each of the three categories -- revitalization, education and tourism -- will be announced during the annual Michigan Auto Heritage Day, an invitation-only event for state lawmakers in the Capitol Building in Lansing.
The deadline for the 2019 Awards of Excellence nominations is Monday, September 16. Self-nominations are accepted.

Michigan Automotive Heritage Day & the Awards of Excellence began in 2014 and have become an annual opportunity to celebrate the story that can only be told in Michigan: How this area "Put The World On Wheels."
The 2018 winner of the Award of Excellence for Preservation was General Motors Durant-Dort Factory One in Flint, the factory operated by Billy Durant and J. Dallas Dort prior to Durant’s acquisition of Buick in 1904 and the formation of General Motors in 1908. The award for Heritage Tourism went to Mary and Ted Stahl of the Stahl’s Automotive Foundation of Chesterfield Township, which stands to foster education and appreciation of vehicles of all makes and model at their museum through hands-on interaction. Finally, last year’s winner in the Education category was the Model T Outreach Program operated by the Casual T’s and Piquette T’s of Detroit, who provided a 45-minute presentation to third graders across the region, but also brought those students outside the classroom to interact with a Model T and driver.
