As several people from all backgrounds migrated to Detroit for the auto industry, the Baker streetcar line carried these automobile workers along Bagley and Vernor to get them to and from the area's many factories. Later, the city decided to replace these streetcars with automobiles and buses, thus turning the Baker streetcar into a bus.
