As the story goes, one day while walking the shop floor at REO Olds witnessed a work slowdown because a local parts manufacturer was tardy in its shipment because it was busy making other parts for other businesses. In response Olds began to assemble a network of satellite companies that would assure there was never a slowdown in production of automobiles because of a supplier. Michigan Screw was incorporated in 1906. "Screw machine products and automobile supplies" were its products.
