The Burton Historical Collection (BHC) of the Detroit Public Library is a large collection of original documents that started as the private library of Clarence Monroe Burton.

Clarence Burton, a Detroit attorney, collected Detroit, Michigan and Northwest Territory history for more than 40 years. Mr. Burton understood the importance of his collection for future generations and he donated it to the Detroit Public Library in 1915. This collection contains thousands of maps, images, books and manuscripts.
