Atlas Drop Forge, 1913

Wayside Exhibit Program (corner Washington and Mt. Hope)
Incorporated almost simultaneously with Michigan Screw, Atlas was also run by R.E. Olds, President, and first located next to the Bates and Edmonds Co, at 239 Mill before moving to its more permanent location at Mt. Hope and Washington (now Atmosphere Annealing). The creation of satellite companies to REO was something Henry Ford would pick up on in the creation of his Rouge plant, in Dearborn, whereby an auto maker could be responsible for every component of a car's manufacture--starting with the milling and forging of steel. These companies could also take on outside jobs and remain solvent when work slowed in auto making.
